My never ending relationship with cricket

This is one of the most fascinating topics to write about! I don't know why but my life is seriously connected to sports and sports is so much related to life. You know I have played a lot of sports of in my life from cricket, football, basketball, TT, Badminton, etc and I have learned a lot of things through it.
My sporting life began with cricket. Just like almost all Indian children I was given a bat in my hand at the age of 4-5. I don't remember the exact age but yes it would be 4-5. I started playing with my brother and we used to tell mom that we want a whole cricket team of brothers! You know saying such a thing right now is funny for me but I was so serious at that time :P
So it was my brother who taught me to hold a bat. And he used to teach me all the shots he knew! From a square cut to a cover drive, everything was taught by my brother. It's not that he taught me it is just that I saw him playing those shots and I learned it myself. It's so amazing when you are a kid you learn things so fast that you never realize that you are learning!  This was the first lesson to me while playing:
LESSON 1: WHEN YOU WANT TO LEARN NEW THINGS LOOK AT IT THROUGH AN EYE OF A KID AND YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU LEARNT IT !!!

So by the age 6-7, I started playing cricket with my building friends of the age of 11-12 and because I was the smallest amongst everyone that time I always used to get away with fielding. But as I grew older I started having fun even in fielding and it was compulsory to field then. You know just taking the batting and running away from fielding was not allowed then. So I started fielding and started doing it really well. I got so addicted to the game that I started playing it with my brother at home ! We used to get a dozen cricket balls from CST. Cricket balls used to cost Rs10 back then at my place whereas it used to cost Rs 7 when I used to get it from CST. We used to try different kinds of spins with the cricket ball. We have tried almost everything from top spin to doosra almost everything! And yes even when I play today topspin is my favorite delivery in underarm cricket!  So when I was 11-12 we started playing cricket in my lane. We used to make two captains and make two teams and play matches amongst ourselves. We used to have fun playing and you know summer vacations were really something that we waited for the entire year.We used to go for cricket in the morning at  10:00 am and play till 2 pm. Then we used to take a break in the afternoon, come back at 5:00 and play cricket again! After playing so much I got a good understanding of the game and I realized that when you want to win a game you don't simply need to bat well, you need to bowl well and field well also! And that gave me life lesson no. 2:
Lesson 2: TO WIN IN LIFE YOU JUST DON'T NEED TO HAVE A GOOD CAREER AND GOOD MARKS,  YOU ALSO NEED FRIENDS, RELATIONSHIPS AND RECREATION IN PROPER BALANCE.

After all of this, suddenly there was an age of computers. My friends in the building started playing more computer games than cricket. And I desperately wanted to play cricket back then. Now to fulfill my desire for cricket I had to find new friends with the same interest! But I didn't try to find friends! My kaka's place was very close to my place. It was one lane away from my place. And I used to visit my kaka every now and then and suddenly one day I saw some people playing cricket there and I was feeling as if my old love has returned to me. And I went on the ground and asked whether I could play with them. And without any hesitation, they said yes, and I joined in. And it was so so amazing playing cricket with new people, learning new things from them and enjoying the game again !!!  And I started enjoying the game even more than what I used to with my old friends! That was my 3rd Lesson
Lesson 3:SOMETIMES PEOPLE WILL LEAVE YOU IN LIFE NOT BECAUSE THEY DON'T LOVE YOU BUT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO MAKE SPACE FOR NEW BETTER PEOPLE TO COME IN LIFE!

Had I never left my own lane I would have never got to play with my new friends!

So I have had many experiences with Cricket and there are a lot of things that I have learned through it which cannot be put on a piece of paper. I have realized that it's not the results that mean more it's the journey that matters the most! It is not what you get, it's about what you give!
